Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A hand-built figural vessel of a half-oval form with a rounded base and a bridged-spout atop. On its obverse it features the depiction of a charming rosy-cheeked woman. The woman's visage features elliptical eyes, sharp brow lines, a protruded nose, and a simple head dress. The vessel's body is decorated with a pair of anthropomorphic mythical beings, perhaps a Nazca deity, atop a cream-colored ground. The beings are painted in hues of red, orange, black, and ochre. The figures appear to be severing the hands of opposing warriors - an intriguing juxtapose to the serene woman at its top. Size: 4.2" Diameter x 4.375" H (10.7 cm x 11.1 cm)
