Description
Pre-Columbian, South Coast of Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 500 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel featuring the Anthropomorphic Mythical Being (or AMB) decorated with polychrome pigments. The creature holds a trophy head by the hair in front of its mouth as it sticks its tongue into the mouth, perhaps to extract any remnants of its original life force. Additional trophy heads adorn the wing tips, tail feathers, and rump cover, all beneath a pair of conical spouts and a bridge handle. Size: 6.6" Diameter x 9" H (16.8 cm x 22.9 cm)
