Description
A fine Nazca polychrome vessel, c. AD 200 - 500, this globular stirrup bottle features two depictions of the anthropomorphic, mythical Spotted Cat. This rare type symbolically combines feline and human elements, such as the human hand holding the club and the lower part of a human body emerging on the underside. Dia: 6 in (15.2 cm). Lavishly decorated with trophy heads and spears. Cf. Proulx 'Sourcebook of Nazca Iconography', page 90. Ex Grimmer collection.
