Item Details
Description
**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a round but stable base, a tapered cylindrical body, and a thin rim surrounding the deep basin. Atop the cream-hued ground is a grand depiction of the Anthropomorphic Mythical Being (AMB) with its broad whiskers, diamond-shaped eyes, and flowing body. The AMB is juxtaposed with a zoomorphic multi-legged figure which has a sword going through the top of its head and through its mouth in a sacrificial manner. The pattern is repeated with two horizontal registers of the illustration in a symmetrical fashion around the exterior of the vessel. An interesting scene set atop a prominent red-hued painted line, which separates the illustration from a solid yellow painted bottom. Size: 4.7" W x 6" H (11.9 cm x 15.2 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
