Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca, ca. 1st to 5th century CE. A hand-built pottery jar of a spherical form with a rounded base, sloped shoulders, and a tall, flared rim. Painted across the tan-hued ground is a pair of highly abstract zoomorphic creatures with serpentine bodies, a long 'trunk' that curves upwards from the downcast head, and several trophy heads lining the peripheries. Hues of yellow, orange, red, black, and fuchsia comprise the polychrome composition and give the vessel an attractive presentation. Size: 5.45" Diameter x 5.25" H (13.8 cm x 13.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010

Condition
Repaired from a few large pieces, with resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Abrasions and light fading to exterior pigment, with light encrustations. Nice preservation to zoomorphic motif.
