Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel of a relatively spherical form with a round but stable base, a gently sloped shoulder, and a planar handle extending between a pair of protruding, conical spouts. Highly burnished and decorated with hues of maroon, cream, ochre, jet, ash gray, and white, this polychrome vessel features an image of the Anthropomorphic Mythical Being. The being bears large eyes and a white beard beneath a broad crown, holds a scepter and a trophy head in his hands, shows both legs extending from beneath a vertically striped skirt, and has additional trophy heads lining his trail as well as on its end.
