Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, Phase IV, ca. 450 to 650 CE. An intriguing, hand-built pottery stirrup vessel depicting a seated warrior who wears a conical helmet and large, circular earspools. Perhaps deceased based on the crossed arms, the figure rests with legs pulled closely to the chest while sitting next to a large, spherical vessel to his right. The highly burnished figure dons a serrated skirt in hues of red and yellow, and his helmet is divided into creamy yellow and orange halves. A semicircular handle extends from the figure's back, and a cylindrical spout rises upwards from the center. Size: 4.6" W x 8.25" H (11.7 cm x 21 cm)
