Description
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel of a tall, cylindrical form with a round but stable base, a rounded shoulder, an anthropomorphic head, a bridge handle, and a conical spout. The highly burnished surfaces are decorated in hues of maroon, orange, cream, jet, ochre, and ash gray and portray an intriguing figure - seated with bent legs and holding a scepter and trophy head - with maroon-hued limbs and a cream-hued body. Behind the figure is a pair of capes with feathered trails emanating from the coiffures of two trophy heads. Size: 4.1" Diameter x 7.5" H (10.4 cm x 19 cm)
