Description
Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Aztec, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A collection of 3 hammered-copper blades that were used for currency or ceremony: one with a crescent-shaped blade, and 2 displaying an elongated body that flares to a curved blade. These are often called "tajadero," the Spanish word for a chopping knife, and "tepoztli" short for "tlaximaltepoztli" (in Nahuatl, tlaximal=carpentry and tepoztli=metal axe). Size of crescent blade: 4.3" L x 5.75" W (10.9 cm x 14.6 cm)
