Description

Pre-Columbian, south coast of Peru, Nazca, ca. 220 BCE to 125 CE. A hand-built polychrome vessel of a round-bottomed form with a compact spherical body and gentle shoulders leading to a brief circular spout. The highly burnished exterior is wonderfully decorated in a parade of vibrant mythical deities, perhaps in a ceremonial or celebratory context. Design elements include asymmetrical serpentine, saurian, and zoomorphic iconography. A pair of pierced suspension loops run parallel the spout. Size: 8.2" Diameter x 4.5" H (20.8 cm x 11.4 cm).
