Description
**Originally Listed At $350**
Native American, Southwestern United States, Zuni Pueblo, ca. late 20th century CE. A charming hand-carved septarian stone fetish frog figurine inlaid with turquoise. Septarian stone technically known as a "septarian nodule," is a unique geological formation consisting of mud, clay, calcite, and other minerals that seep into the cracks around a mass, hardening over millions of years, forming a distinctive crackled pattern. In Zuni cosmology and those of neighboring tribes, each fetish is believed to have inherent powers or qualities that may aid the owner, and frogs symbolize water, which is synonymous with life and purification. Frogs are frequently depicted on prayer bowls when seeking water in the form of rain or snow. Size: 2" L x 1.25" W x 1" H (5.1 cm x 3.2 cm x 2.5 cm)
