AFRICAN POLYCHROME CARVED WOOD CEREMONIAL VESSEL, H 8", W 7", L 17" Lid featuring a frowning face and turtle. Body of vessel features a kneeling male and female figure on each side with arms raised. Top and bottom end with protruding faces. Carved male figure inside of vessel appearing to be coffin. Provenance: Estate of Jack Faxon, Birmingham, MI. Michigan Senator and creator of the Michigan Council for the Arts.
Condition
Significant splitting to the grain. A few areas with minor loss. Moderate scratches and scuffs consistent with age an wear.
