Description
A very rare and impressive antique to ancient ceramic vessel with ornate Islamic script and animal motifs with decorative elements. Excavations in Nishapur, one of the capitals of the Samanid Empire (874-1005), in what is today north-eastern Iran and Uzbekistan, have shown that it was there that this kind of pottery, with its buff ground and most commonly a profusion of small motifs, was produced during the ninth and tenth centuries. Nishapur Decorated Pottery Bowl, Persia, Iran, Ca. 9th to 12th Century AD. Measures 10 inches wide x 4 inches deep. provenance: Ex Dr. Brian Healy Estate collection, New York.
