Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca, ca. 1st to 5th century CE. A hand-built pottery bowl with a rounded base and elegantly flared walls. The exterior walls bear a middle register of inversely corresponding spirals and steps, juxtaposed with what could be interpreted as a row of standing figures along its top. The bottom register is a minimalist interplay of cream-colored blocks delineated by smaller blocks of red outlined by a narrow black line. The vessel is painted in signature hues of cream, russet red, and black. The interior is highly burnished with a petite inner basin and wide walls. Size: 6.5" W x 4" H (16.5 cm x 10.2 cm)
