Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 100 to 500 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished bowl of a sizable form with a round but stable base, gradually expanding walls, and a thin rim surrounding a deep basin. The cream-ground exterior walls are decorated with a repeating motif of right-facing arrows with triangular heads and bodies painted in either marigold, burnt sienna, or amethyst purple hues. The exterior base and rim are accentuated with brick-red pigment, and the interior basin surfaces exhibit a solid layer of red-brown color. Size: 8.25" W x 4.75" H (21 cm x 12.1 cm)

Repaired from approximately 12 to 20 large pieces, with restoration in several areas, and resurfacing with overpainting along new material and break lines. Light abrasions to surfaces, with minor fading to areas of original pigment, and a few petite spalls. Great remains of original pigment along exterior surfaces. Old inventory label beneath base.
