Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $300**

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 200 to 400 CE. Two distinct hand-built pottery bowls of varied size and stylization. The largest of the pair features remarkably thin vertical walls, a rounded base, and a repeating minimalist motif across its exterior. The painted program is a series of repeating crescent shapes completed in hues of red and brown atop a cream-colored ground delineated by narrow columns. Its interior basin is decorated in a deep russet red. The second vessel features a slightly rounded base, with extensively flared walls featuring a very illustrative composition painted across its exterior depicting a pair of spear-wielding Anthropomorphic Mythical Beings with wide eyes. An interesting pair with differing aesthetic values which prevailed in the region during this era. Size: 7.25" W x 3" H (18.4 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
