Description

Early 1970s Space Archive of 11 TLS, ANS & Business Card Re: Apollo Programs

An interesting group of eleven typed letters and other items, totaling 13, relating to the NASA space program during the early 1970s. All are addressed to Arthur Boulanger (one is misdirected to "Alfred" rather than "Arthur), dating from May 1971 to May 1975. Many are typed on National Aeronautics and Space Administration letterhead, along with other businesses. With signatures by astronaut Jack Lousma, Senator Thomas J. McIntyre, Director of Launch Operations W. J. Kapryan, Technical Services Supervisor I.C. Lawhead, and others. Also included is an unsigned letter from astronaut John W. Young and John Glenn's retired business card. Several letters have retained their envelopes. All with flattened mail folds, and varying degrees of light toning, foxing, and soiling. A few small tears in places. All with bold signatures. Overall, very good. Please refer to the photographs for further condition information.

Highlights include:

1. "Sermons We See" by Edgar A. Guest, Poem Signed "Jack Lousma". "A Bit of Down to Earth Philosophy for the Daily Orbit".

2. Walter Kapryan TLS "W.J. Kapryan". Kennedy Space Center, Florida, dated March 27, 1973. Regarding Boulanger's efforts "in publicizing our nation's space efforts." Kapryan goes on to provide some brochures on upcoming missions including the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project and the Skylab Program.

3. John W. Young Typed Letter. Dated June 1, 1972, thanking Boulanger for sending him a plaque with the Young coat of arms and in return, he is sending various Apollo mission pictures.

4. Walter Kapryan TLS "W.J. Kapryan". Kennedy Space Center, Florida, dated June 8, 1973. Kapryan sends Boulanger a tape cassette and 35mm slide package of a space shuttle presentation, produced for Rockwell International.

5. John Glenn Business Card, Colonel U.S.M.C./NASA Astronaut, Retired.

6. Renza Emerson Shepard ANS "Renza E. Shepard". Postmarked East Derry, dated August 30, 1971. On a personalized stationery notecard. A note from Alan Shepard's mother to Boulanger, thanking him for sending a 1st Day Cover as well as a booklet of photographs of the moon landing.

Arthur E. Boulanger, Jr. was a United States Air Force veteran. He worked as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service for 33 years until his retirement and had an extensive collection of Space Program memorabilia which he generously donated to local schools and historical societies.
