A handsome commemorative flight card for the historic six-orbit, nine-hour, Mercury-Atlas 8 mission completed on October 3, 1962, signed by signed by six participants in the development of the Mercury Program. The card measures 11" x 7", with a blind-embossed and hand-tinted U.S. Navy insignia on the right side, an image of Schirra at top left, and a Project Mercury stamp plate block canceled Cape Canaveral, October 3, 1962. It bears a yellow silk braided cord at middle and is in fine condition.

The signers of this fine memento include: Wernher von Braun, aviation artist Robert T. McCall, Eberhard Reese (second director of the Marshall Space Flight Center, H. H. Gorman (Associate Deputy Director for Administration at the Marshall Space Flight Center), D. H. Newby, and one more not identified by us.

Project Mercury was established in 1959 as the first human spaceflight program, with the purpose to beat the Soviets to putting a human into orbit and returning him safely to earth. Schirra, in his spacecraft "Sigma 7," became the fifth American and ninth human to travel into space.
