Paul Revere Silver Teaspoon Possibly Gifted to Alexander Hamilton
Tableware

Small silver teaspoon hand-crafted by Paul Revere, engraved with the initials "A.H." Featuring his recognizable imprint on verso, visible from reflection on back side of frame. From end to end, the spoon measures 4.75" in length. Accompanied by two first day covers commemorating Hamilton's 200th birthday, both dated January 11, 1957. Silver exhibits light tarnishing and surface scratching, else near fine. Attractively displayed in a large shadow box to the overall size of 11.25" x 23.75" x 2".

At the age of thirteen, Paul Revere (1735-1818) left school to begin an apprenticeship under his silversmith father. After serving with the Massachusetts militia during the Revolutionary War, he returned to the silversmith trade, using the profits to expand into other fields such as iron and bronze casting. Later, his business plans in the 1780s were often stymied by a shortage of adequate money in circulation. Alexander Hamilton's national policies regarding banks and industrialization exactly matched his dreams, and Revere became an ardent Federalist committed to building a robust economy and a powerful nation. Indeed, while it is unknown exactly when this spoon were presented to Hamilton, it's clear that Revere's admiration for the statesman only increased with time. Heritage Certificate shows the "AH" but does not mention the probable connection to Hamilton, which our consignor, the representative of an estate of an advanced collector, puts forth.
