1976 Bicentennial Ltd. Ed. Independence Hall Relic
Relic
Limited edition display housing a 1" x .5" wood chip cut from the original cedar beams of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, numbered 22970 out of an unspecified edition. Housed in a collector's case with identification plaque and gold facsimile signatures of some of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Accompanied by a related pamphlet and certificate from Burnes of Boston, who released the edition during the bicentennial year of 1976. The wood exhibits slight cracking to right side, not affecting identification numbers. Else fine.
The original Independence Hall structure remained intact until 1896, when renovation became necessary. At that time, some of the original oak and cedar beams required replacement, but those removed were stored for preservation by several private collectors. On two separate occasions, pieces of the stored beams were carved into gavels and presented as gifts to President Charles de Gaulle of France and President Dwight Eisenhower. Later in 1966, four pieces of the beams were presented to the National Park Service for inclusion in its architectural reference collection.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
