Eliphalet Remington II PSA/DNA MINT 9 Boldly Signed Check

A check inscribed overall and signed by Eliphalet Remington, Jr. (also known as Eliphalet Remington II) (1793-1861) as ?E. Remington & Sons? in the signature line. December 31, 1853. [Ilion, New York.] Encapsulated and PSA/DNA graded MINT 9. With this unnumbered check, Eliphalet Remington II directed the Cashier of Ilion Bank, located in Ilion, New York, to pay $70 to one "D. Chisemore." Bearing the usual X-shaped cancellation punch at the center. Else near fine. The check measures 7" x 2.625" while the slab measures 9.5" x 4.625."
Eliphalet Remington II adapted his father's legacy, a blacksmithing concern, into a hugely successful firearms manufacturing company that profited from two historical trends: western expansion and the Civil War. In 1828, Remington II set up a factory in Ilion, New York, which had close access to New York canals. Later the company fabricated pistols, typewriters, sewing machines, and agricultural tools. Remington II later incorporated his three sons into the firm, renaming it E. Remington & Sons.
