A White House card boldly signed by 27th U.S. President William H. Taft (1857-1930) as "Wm H Taft" at center. N.d., n.p. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified authentic. The cream stock card is embossed in navy blue with "The White House / Washington" in the upper right corner. The "m" and "H" of Taft's signature are slightly smeared. The card is lightly toned with isolated color loss and water stains affecting the edges, and with minor mounting traces verso. Else very good to near fine. The card measures 4.125" x 2.75", total measurement with the slab: 7.25" x 4.25."

Taft signed this card sometime during his 1909-1913 presidential term. Taft was viewed by many as just Teddy Roosevelt's ideological and practical successor; he is consistently ranked as a middling president by historians. Prior to assuming the presidency, Taft had served in roles as diverse as the 6th Solicitor Generalship of the United States, and the provisional governorship of the Philippines and Cuba. Taft served as 42nd Secretary of War under Roosevelt, and, after leaving the White House, returned to his alma mater Yale University to serve as the Kent Professor of Law and Legal History. The ex-president was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1921.
