Description
Apollo VIII Astronaut Bill Anders Signed "Earthrise" Poster
Poster, measuring 17" x 22", n.p., undated. Printed poster of the iconic Earthrise image taken December 24, 1968 by Bill Anders during the Apollo VIII mission. The photograph features the Earth and some of the Moon's surface taken from lunar orbit. It has been described as one of the most influential environmental photographs ever taken. Creases and light cracking present on poster surface, not affecting signature quality. Boldly signed in silver felt tip pen in the bottom left corner. Fair condition, rolled.
William "Bill" Anders (1933-) was a NASA astronaut assigned to the third Apollo mission, commanded by Frank Borman. Upon retiring from NASA in 1969, he was appointed by Nixon as the executive secretary of the National Aeronautics and Space Council. He is perhaps most remembered for being one of the first to capture the "Earthrise" in a photograph amidst the Apollo VIII mission.
