Description
**Originally Listed At $550**

North Africa, Morocco, Fez (Fes) region, ca. 19th century CE. A stunning pottery bowl, known as a mokhfia, presenting a round bottom and thick walls that swoop up to a gracefully flared rim, all sitting upon a ring-form foot. Boasting brilliant hues of cobalt, turquoise, aubergine, lemon yellow, and black on a white ground, the interior of the dish is meticulously hand-painted with a central floral motif of 6 decorative tondos surrounded by intricate phytomorphic designs. A striated pattern adorns the rim, while the exterior is enveloped in a creamy white glaze. A pair of piercings in the foot allow for the bowl to be suspended for display - that is when it is not in use, serving fluffy and flavorful couscous! Size: 14.3" Diameter x 4" H (36.3 cm x 10.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
