Description
**Originally Listed At $450**
North Africa, Morocco, Fez (Fes) region, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. An elegant Fassi style pottery dish for serving couscous known as a Mokhfia. Boasting elaborate blue-on-white decoration, the stunning dish displays thick walls that rise to a broad, raised rim above a shallow basin, all sitting upon a ring-form foot. The interior is meticulously hand-painted with complex floral, vegetal, and geometric motifs, while the exterior remains minimalist and bare, enveloped only in a glaze of creamy white with liberal remains of blue pigment in scattered areas providing a slight contrast. A pair of perforations pierce the circular foot - one of which is strung with a modern blue and white rope, allowing the graceful vessel to be suspended when not in use. Size: 16.1" Diameter x 3.8" H (40.9 cm x 9.7 cm)
Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
