Northern Africa, Morocco, Fez (Fes) Region, ca. 19th century CE. A remarkable pottery bowl of an impressive scale presenting thick walls that swell out from a rounded bottom to a broad, flared rim, all sitting upon a ring-form base. Skillfully hand-painted in blue on white decoration, the beautiful vessel boasts the abstract image of a quatrefoil on the interior basin, filled and surrounded by intricate lattice, polka dot, and striated motifs and surrounded. The rim is additionally embellished by a striped border. An annular perforation pierces the circular foot - one of which is strung with a modern metal wire - allowing the bowl to be suspended for display when not in use.
