Eastern Africa, Kenya or Tanzania, Maasai peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A throwing spear of a formidable length with a wooden central pole secured with dangerous weapons on either end. The bottom of the spear features a slender spike for impaling creatures on the ground, and the top bears a petaloid blade that is useful for striking airborne targets. Each end is fitted onto one end of the wooden pole via a narrow socketing shaft. Spears like this example were a Maasai warrior's most prized possession and were used to defend herds and the community against predators. Size (spear): 78.9" L (200.4 cm); (blade head): 34.75" L x 2" W (88.3 cm x 5.1 cm); (bottom spike): 32.4" L x 0.7" W (82.3 cm x 1.8 cm)

Slight bending to overall form of spike end, blade, and wooden pole, with minor abrasions to all 3 sections, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout.
