A REPUBLIC OF TEXAS MANUSCRIPT, FROM JOHN A. WHARTON, SECRETARY OF WAR, WAR DEPARTMENT, TO COL. JAMES MORGAN, GALVESTON, SEPTEMBER 17, 1836, hand-inscribed ink on partially watermarked bird with leaves cream laid paper, "To. Col. James Morgan, Gal. Count., of Galveston Island, Sir, Sometime back a requisition was made for eight Mexicans for the use of hospital at this place. If they are not already sent you will please hand them over to Dr. Francis Moore Junr. who will conduct them here. Your obedient servant," signed, "John A. Wharton, Sec. of War." 9 7/8" x 8" Provenance: Estate of Dr. Paul E. Shutts, Houston, Texas.
Condition
Old handling stains, one side edge ripped, some bleeding, a paper fragment, pin holes, but overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
