Description
Lathrop, John. AN ORATION PRONOUNCED ON THE 4TH DAY OF JULY, 1798, AT THE REQUEST OF A NUMBER OF THE INHABITANTS OF DEDHAM AND ITS VICINITY, IN COMMEMORATION OF THE ANNIVERSARY OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE. Dedham: Minerva Press, 1798. 8vo. 19, [1] pp., including the half-title leaf. Bound here in 20th century 1/4 cloth over marbled boards. ********* First edition of this scarce July 4th oration by Lathrop. As noted on the title-verso, the present oration was requested to be printed for the press – a request to which Lathrop acquiesces, noting that if his oration "possess[es] any merit, it consists in its truth and American federalism." Sabin 39190.
