A NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. POLISHED RED BRASS REGISTER, MODEL 440, EMPIRE PATTERN, 1909, with elaborately cast crisp details throughout and surmounted by the "AMOUNT PURCHASED" marquee, above "CASH" and "Dollars Cents" windows over an engraved brass tag numbered "723094 / 440," above a cash drawer opening to a maple lined interior enclosing three paper bill compartments fitted with polished nickel cylindrical weights, centered by seven slope welled change compartments, the register body mounted on an original conforming oak base centering a brass plaque stamped "The National Cash Register Co. / Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.," includes four keys. Good restored condition, with some expected light surface scratches scattered about, top left side of cash drawer has a patch of green oxidation, normal surface buildup, and general light wear. The buttons work, the handle on side turns and the drawer opens. The "AMOUNT PURCHASED" brass marquee is cast a bit differently and is probably a later addition.  Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
