A REPUBLIC OF TEXAS $100 CONSOLIDATED FUND OF TEXAS CERTIFICATE, ISSUED TO JOHN KIRBY ALLEN, FOUNDER OF HOUSTON, SEPTEMBER 1, 1837, lithograph on paper with manuscript in ink, no. 1561, signed by Francis R. Lubbock and William G. Cooke, Stock Commissioner. 3 1/4" x 6 5/8" Note: John Kirby Allen (1810-1838)?is best known as a co-founder of the City of Houston. The Texas State Historical Association cites that in, "August 1836 the Allen Brothers purchased more than 6,600 acres of land around Buffalo Bayou..." The present certificate was?printed and penned just about one year after the City of Houston was established. John Kirby Allen passed away within the year after this certificate was issued to him. Provenance: Estate of Dr. Paul E. Shutts, Houston, Texas.
