Item Details
Description
Cheeke, John, Sir. THE TRUE SUBIECT TO THE REBELL, OR THE HURT OF SEDITION, HOW GREIVOUS IT IS TO A COMMON-WEALTH. Oxford: Leonard Lichfield, 1641. 7" x 5.25". [24], 64 pp. Bound in 18th century 1/2 calf. ********** Very rare. Sir John Cheeke (1514-1557) was a Reformist who went into exile upon the accession of Queen Mary; he was imprisoned in 1556 and recanted his faith to avoid death by burning, but he died shortly thereafter.
Condition
Binding toned and some light chipping and cracking along front hinge. Ex-library with two old ink-stamps (on to title, another to one text-leaf), some mild age-toning and some foxing (most foxing to title and first several leaves), some very light worming to lower portion of some pages (very small, touching some letters but no loss.) Overall Good.
