Oblong folio, publisher's lettered cloth, 12 ½ x 17 ¾ in. (31.8 x 45.1 cm). The book "Photographs by Count Nostitz. 1896. Profits to add the Pankovsky Orphanage on the Dnepr in the Ekaterinaslav guberniya" was a lavishly printed and bound group of photographs by General Count Ivan Grigoriyevich Nostits (1824-1905), a Cavalier of the Order of St George and a veteran of the Crimean War, took up photography on his retirement from the military in 1874. He made significant contributions to the field, even inventing a number of lenses for which he received international patents. Many of his best photographs from his exhibitions of the 1880s and early 1890s are incorporated in this album sold to benefit an orphanage in what is today Ukraine.
