Description
John Bradstreet Hero of Ticonderoga ALS
JOHN BRADSTREET. Autograph Letter Signed, “Bradstreet”, no place, no date, but ca. 1755-56, 2 pp., 8” x 12.5”. Very fine condition, with bold signature. Ex-Christie’s, Sigety Collection.
Bradstreet writes to Dr. Phill about payment for his “Battoe Men” and one of the men named Cowly, who has submitted a false affidavit for pay to which he is not entitled.
In part, “I wrote the General about the Battoe Men … The Bearer will give you the Book of Ballances where Cowlys account is and his receipt at the other end for money paid him on producing a power of attorney for the men absent at pay day…Cowlys affidavit is false in all its parts … as far as I can see there is not a shilling due to any man”.
John Bradstreet (1714–1774) was a British Army officer during King George's War, the French and Indian War, and Pontiac's Rebellion. He was born in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia to a British Army lieutenant and an Acadian mother. He also served as the Commodore-Governor for Newfoundland.
Sold by EAH in 2000 for approximately $660.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
