A printed invitation to the "Texas Welcome Dinner" hosting John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson on the fateful night of his assassination. 1p of a bifolium, measuring 7" x 9.75", Austin, dated to occur on November 22, 1963. Hosted by the State Democratic Executive Committee, located at the Municipal Auditorium in Austin. The event was held to honor both President Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson. Signed in print by the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and Secretary. Flattened center fold with faint toning and wear to the right edge. Near fine. A rare and sobering piece of US history.

An original invitation to the famous evening dinner that never was. In the lead up to the 1964 election, Kennedy was worried that the backlash from the Civil Rights issue would cost him support in the South. He would need to take Texas again, and by more than the 46,000 vote margin he'd eked by with in 1960. Kennedy's trip was meant to help him meet with rich Texas donors and straighten out the conservative-liberal split in the state's Democratic Party. The plan was to fly to Texas, make a half dozen appearances, and end the visit in Austin on November 22nd, at a $100-a-plate dinner for the State Democratic Executive Committee. He never made it to the dinner that evening.
