Moorman is the last surviving witness to John F. Kennedy's assassination. She captured the exact moment of the shooting on film with her Polaroid camera, approximately 1/6 of a second after the President was shot. As one of the closest witnesses to the assassination, Moorman here describes the events as they unfolded.
In full: "On the 22nd of November 1963, my 11 year old son wanted to see President John F. Kennedy when he came to Dallas. But it was a school day, and I did not want him to miss school. So I told him that I would take a photo, never dreaming that the picture would be a part of history.
/ On Dealey Plaza, as the crowd grew louder, we knew that the President's limo was approaching and Jean Hill yelled, 'Mr. President, look this way we want to take your picture!' With the Polaroid camera up to my face I snapped the picture. I heard three popping sounds, Pop, pause, Pop Pop, which I thought were firecrackers. Then I heard Jackie holler, 'My God! he's been shot!' To this day in my memory, Jackie's words are so vivid. Seconds later, the President was slumped over on Jackie and she started to climb out of the limo. / Only 15 feet away from the limo when he was shot, I Mary Ann Moorman, at the age of 91 today, was the closest witness to the JFK assassination. It all happened in seconds, and then it was over."
