Fantastic find in this ultra rare George Washington inaugural clothing button. This button is known as the "Dotted Script" and is from 1789. Around the rim of the button, it reads "LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT" with GW in the center in cursive script. There is some wear in the center on the inner part of the G that carries over into the W. Also shows light wear around the rim of the button itself, but really nice condition overall. The brass button appears to have the original shank on the verso and measures approx 1 3/8" across.
