High Quality George Washington Inaugural Button "Eagle and Star" Type with Its Original Shank Intact Albert WI-12C
(c. 1789), George Washington Inaugural Button, Eagle and Star Type, Cobb-17g, Albert WI-12C, DeWitt 1789-3c, Baker-1009 variety with 63 border indents, Brass, Traces of Gilt, with Original Shank, Choice About Uncirculated.
34.5 mm. A remarkable superb quality George Washington Inaugural Button of the popular "Eagle and Star" major Type, with its Original Shank perfectly straight and intact on the plan reverse. This example has beautiful even glossy smooth light natural chestnut color to the brass with attractive traces of rarely seen original gilding still remaining in some of the recesses of the Eagle and Star incuse design, plus with the 63 outer border indents. Only faint if any wear, and the overall eye appeal is outstanding. The reverse has a wonderful smooth hard surfaces with a nearly identical appearance to the face. It is possible this Washington button was put away when virtually new, and gently toned in a collector's cabinet.
