George Washington "Eagle and Star" Type Inaugural Button
(1789) George Washington Inaugural Button, "Eagle and Star" Type, Albert WI-12C, Plain Reverse, Brass, Original Shank, Choice Extremely Fine.
35 mm. This design type George Washington Inaugural Button is of a major variety has 63 incuse dots or indentations forming a decorative design forming the outer border. There is a sharply detailed Patriotic American Federal Heraldic Eagle with Shield at its breast, with Arrows and Laurel Branch clutched in its Talons. One small scrape across the Laurel branch is mostly hidden in the design. The Eagle's Head is wisely turned towards the Laurel, which shows our country's preference for peace. Above the Eagle is a Six Pointed Star with Rays. The reverse shank is intact and complete yet pushed down flat. This rich brown and brass example is smooth and clean with just a very faint bend at upper right. An impressive George Washington "Eagle and Star" Presidential Inaugural Button.
