Description
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East, Holy Land, ca. 5th to 8th century CE. A gathering of five mold-made terracotta oil lamps with light-orange colorations. First is a large lamp with six concentric circles on its base, pinched walls, a large fill hole, and a handle displaying a simplistic anthropomorphic bust. Second is a petite lamp, also with six concentric circles adorning its base, with a five-lined handle and an eight-pointed star around the fill hole. Third is a discoid lamp with an incised base, a pierced loop handle, and an enclosed bar of low-relief dots around the shoulders. The fourth lamp has a ringed base, a tab-shaped handle, and a register of intricate triangular designs around the fill hole. The last lamp has a large base, a wide, tab-shaped handle, and a braided cord design around the shoulders. A lovely ensemble! Size of largest (handle with face): 4.5" L (11.4 cm).

Condition
Top and bottom halves of discoid lamp repaired with minor chips along break line. All vessels have expected surface wear commensurate with age and use, light char marks to wick spouts, small chips around peripheries, fading to low-relief designs, otherwise very good. Nice earthen and mineral deposits throughout.
