**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, Holy Land, ca. 5th to 8th century CE. A wonderful assemblage of mold-made terracotta oil lamps from the Holy Land. First is a light-orange lamp with a circular base, a tab-shaped handle, a wide fill hole with a border of spotted designs in low-relief, and a projecting wick spout. Second is a buff discoid lamp with a concave base, a tab-shaped thumb rest, and remnants of its original deep-red coloration. Third is an orange, teardrop-shaped lamp with a circular base, fragmentary handle, and ribbed shoulders. Fourth is another buff discoid lamp with a ringed base and intricate linear and triangular designs around the raised fill hole. Last is a pale-orange lamp with a circular base displaying a radiant sun, a trifurcated, tab-shaped handle, and a low-relief concentric circle just above the neck channel. An amazing ensemble! Size of largest (spotted border around fill hole): 4.25" L (10.8 cm).

All vessels have expected surface wear commensurate with age and use, light char marks to wick spouts, small chips and nicks to bases, bodies, and handles, and remnants of original coloration, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen and mineral deposits throughout.
