Ancient Near East, Holy Land / Levant, Late Bronze Age, ca. 1550 to 1200 BCE. A terracotta oil lamp, made from a coarse clay with small pebble inclusions, in a saucer shape with a small round base. It has a narrow, pinched rest for its wick and a shallow bowl. Lamps of this style were hugely important to the lives of the people who used them; in the Old Testament, various important people are compared by analogy to the importance of a lamp like this one. Size: 4.9" W x 1.55" H (12.4 cm x 3.9 cm)
