Description
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East, Holy Land, ca. 5th to 8th century CE. A wonderful gathering of five mold-made terracotta oil lamps from the ancient Holy Land. First is a teardrop-form lamp with bullseye-style shoulder designs, a stylized plant in the neck channel, and a recessed fill hole. Second is a pale-orange lamp with a conical handle and remnants of its original deep-red slip. Third is an ornate lamp with undulating geometric motifs on top, a raised thumb rest, and a petite wick spout. Fourth is a round lamp with a large handle, a concentric circle base, and raised notches around the shoulders. Last is a lamp with a raised ring base, a tall handle, and concentric bands of grooves around the wide fill hole. A great selection for any collection! Size (concentric groove bands): 4" L (10.2 cm).

Condition
All lamps have age-commensurate surface wear, and small chips to bases, shoulders, and handles. Some lamps have char marks to wick spouts, and fading to low-relief designs and coloration, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
