Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 4th to 5th century CE; Ancient Near East, Holy Land, early Byzantine Empire, ca. 4th to 6th century CE. A blown glass beaker that could double as an oil lamp and a stemmed glass goblet or cup with a dark blue spotted pattern. As a lamp, the conical glass beaker was inserted into a metal lamp holder or chandelier, sometimes known as a polycandelion, Greek for "many lights," a type that was popular in Byzantine churches. Size of oil beaker: 3.5" Diameter x 5" H (8.9 cm x 12.7 cm)

Condition
Both are repaired from many pieces, visible break lines as shown. Loss to rim and body on oil lamp beaker, and restoration with new material and adhesive on stemmed cup. Earthen and mineral deposits on both.
