Description
ENGLISH PEAFOWL PEARLWARE CERAMIC PLATES, LOT OF TWO, peafowl designs in center, sponged foliage on one plate in green and on the other in green and blue; decoration flows slightly on larger dish, likely from excess heat in the kiln firing; molded rim on both, decorated with a green pigment. The design is in the pattern called "Spartacus" by G. and M. Deike. Impressed concave-sided square on the back of larger plate, otherwise unmarked. Circa 1820. 8" D and 9 1/2" D.
Hairline crack to rim on larger dish, restored hairline crack at rim and three minute surface glaze flakes on front (one filled in) on smaller.
