Description
ENGLISH PEAFOWL PEARLWARE CERAMIC PLATES, LOT OF TWO, peafowl design on plates with dark brown helmet-like cap and feathers patterned in orange, brown, and a deep yellow pigment, the bird does not have feet detailed in the image, but rests on a branch with sponged foliage in green pigment, lightly molded shell-edge with a thin band of blue cobalt pigment. The design is in the pattern called "Spartacus" by G. and M. Deike. Painted "7" on back of smaller dish in brown pigment, otherwise unmarked. Staffordshire and other areas. Circa 1810. 8 1/2" D and 9 5/8" D.
Excellent, undamaged condition. Minor expected wear and some roughness on underside of rim on larger of two.
