Superb Samuel Clemens Magnificent Signed Cabinet Card

A superb cabinet card of the acclaimed humorist, very boldly inscribed and signed on the verso in 1888, his final year of writing "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur?s Court", which would be published in 1889. The card measures 4.25? x 6? sepia, and shows Clemens in a classic portrait pose. Executed by the renowned photographic firm of Sarony, New York, it is marked as such at bottom blank margin.

On the verso, Clemens signs a bold inscription in blue ink to a Mrs. Hawley, in full: ?Most sincerely yours S. L. Clemens Hartford, Oct. 31/88.? Very slight marginal wear, otherwise in near fine condition with a fine signature.

Clemens had begun work on A Connecticut Yankee in 1885, bringing it to its full realization in 1889.
