A collection of materials related to the presidency and later impeachment trial of 42nd President Bill Clinton. Totaling four items in all, ranging in date between 1992-1999, The lot includes two Senate impeachment tickets from the 106th U.S. Congress, the first dated January 7, 1999 and the second, February 12, 1999, as well as two campaign pamphlets from the state of New York. The tickets are notably dated from the first day of the trial's commencement, in addition to its conclusion. Measuring 2.5" x 5.5" (tickets) and 3.5" x 8.5" (pamphlets). Light toning and soiling to pamphlets, with tickets in near fine condition. Please see accompanying photographs for additional information.
After an inquiry between October and December 1998, President Clinton was formally impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives on December 19, 1998. The articles of impeachment charged him with both perjury and obstruction of justice. The trial, which ran between January 7-February 12, 1999, became the second impeachment trial of a president since that of Andrew Johnson. Clinton was ultimately acquitted on both articles, with neither receiving the two-thirds majority needed for a conviction, and remained in office.
