A dealer's lot of four books signed by four U.S. Presidents: 34th U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969); 36th U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson (1908-1973); 37th U.S. President Richard Nixon (1913-1994); and 39th U.S. President Jimmy Carter (born 1924). Please refer to catalog photos for additional information related to condition, which is overall very good to near fine. The largest book (including clamshell case) measures 7.25" x 9.875" x 2.5" while the books stacked measure approximately 7.125" x 10" x 8.125." Four pieces total.

The lot consists of, in order of presidency:

1. A special presentation copy of Dwight D. Eisenhower, "The White House Years: Mandate for Change, 1953-1956" (Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1963). The half title page of the volume is affixed with a pictorial "Eisenhower Farm at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania" book plate signed and inscribed by Eisenhower as "Devotedly / Dwight D Eisenhower" at center. Stated "first edition after the printing of a limited edition of one thousand five hundred copies" on the copyright page. The book comes with its original book jacket with flaps intact, the left one still listing its retail price of $6.95. Light toning within, and minor isolated jacket chipping, else near fine. 650pp.

The bookplate indicates that Eisenhower presented this signed book to Christian Herter (1895-1966), who had served as Eisenhower's Secretary of State from 1959-1961.

2. A special presentation copy of Lyndon B. Johnson, "The Vantage Point: Perspectives of the Presidency, 1963-1969" (New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1971). The half title page of the volume is affixed with a card bearing LBJ's gilt initials and a gilt-embossed presidential seal, inscribed and signed by Johnson as: "To / Mark John Searce / With warmest wishes / Lyndon B. Johnson / 'Xmas '72." A partly printed Johnson Family calling card has been tucked into the book also. Stated first edition on the copyright page. The book comes with its original book jacket with flaps intact, the left one still listing its retail price of $15.00. Minor wrinkles affecting the dust jacket flaps and isolated discoloration of the jacket, else near fine. The book is housed in a clamshell case with a spine-protecting liner gilt-embossed "L.B. Johnson," with expected scuffs. 636pp.

3. A first printing copy of Richard Nixon, "The Memoirs of Richard Nixon" (New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1978), signed by him as "Richard Nixon" on the front loose endpaper confirming that "this copy has been signed by the author." Stated first printing on the copyright page. The "d" of Nixon's signature is slightly smeared, with a few light blue water spots scattered on the signature page. The spine is moderately sunned. Currently housed in a an unevenly faded clamshell case. Else very good to near fine. 1120pp.

4. The Presidential Edition of Jimmy Carter, "Why Not the Best?" (Nashville, Tennessee: Broadman Press, 1977). A slip of watermarked stationery tucked into the book bearing Carter's name and a gilt-embossed presidential seal at top has been typed with a thank-you message, and signed by Carter as "Jimmy" at bottom. Near fine and housed in a covered box, the plastic lid of which has yellowed and cracked. 208pp.
