ANDREW JACKSON, Partially Printed Document Signed, Land Warrant to Thomas Coleman, March 2, 1831, Washington, D.C. Countersigned by Commissioner Elijah Hayward of the General Land Office. 1 p., 14.25" x 9". On vellum; some soiling on folds; wax and paper seal intact.

This deed granted Thomas Coleman 160 acres of land in southern Illinois, just west of Shawneetown, near the Ohio River. The land lies in modern Gallatin County, Illinois.

Hazel Moreland Sr. (1763-1826) was born in Maryland. In 1785, he married Hannah Willis in North Carolina, and they migrated to Gallatin County, Illinois by 1820. Hazel Moreland died there in 1826, and Thomas Coleman was his assignee for this plot of 160 acres. On the same date, Coleman also received a land warrant for another 160 acres of adjoining land as an assignee of James Trousdale.

President of the United States of America, To All to Whom These Presents Shall Come, Greeting:
Know Ye, That Thomas Coleman assignee of Hazel Moreland, Senior, having deposited in the General Land Office, a Certificate of the Register of the Land Office at Shawneetown whereby it appears the full payment has been made for the North West quarter of Section Thirty two in Township Nine South, of Range Nine, East, containing 160 acres of the Lands directed to be sold at Shawneetown, Illinois by the Acts of Congress, relative to the disposal of the Public Lands in Illinois, There is Granted, by the United States, in pursuance of the Acts of Congress in that case provided, unto the said Thomas Coleman and to his hears the quarter Lot or Section of Land above described: To Have and to Hold the said quarter Lot or section of Land, with the appurtenances, unto the said Thomas Coleman and to his heirs and assigns for ever.
In testimony Whereof, I have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and the Seal of the General Land Office to be hereunto affixed.
Given under my Hand, at the City of Washington, the second Day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one and of the Independence of the United States of America, the fifty fifth.
